About this deal

Usually the experience of someone living with dementia is lost; known only partially even to their loved ones. The miracle of this work is that it managed to capture the experience, and hold it up for the rest of us to see * Telegraph *

Next, I remember going through the Bookcase Analogy and thoughtful eyes suddenly appearing on faces. It was at the end of the session that I told them: rape is never the victims fault. Stop blaming and questioning the victim. it doesn't matter what they were wearing, whether they were drinking, it is not their fault. this is continuously mentioned in the book!!! Leah was such an amazing and complex character and Theo and George - well I’ve never loved two guys so much at the same in a book as I did these two!For much of the way through Theo had me guessing much more than George. I loved them both in their own way. Theo earns my love when he takes their name not Leah taking his. While George was likeable throughout but in the now more than most. Theo had me completely guessing with the outcome of what happened with the drink driving. I felt for all the characters.

I actually spent 3/4s of the book thinking something had gone one way and when it was made clearer and I realised I was so wrong - man the tears! It just changed everything! A great but sad little twist. Two years ago, Ashley Lawrence, a freshman in high school, was raped by a senior football player during Homecoming week. Since then, it has driven a wedge between her and her brother, Derek. They were once very close, but now Ashley hates him and can’t even stand to look at him. Derek is carrying around his own guilt about the night of the rape and feels partly responsible for what happened to Ashley. With both Ashley and Derek at odds, the rest of their family is feeling the strain. Can Ashley and Derek ever learn to forgive each other so that their family can start the healing process? patty blount's writing is raw and gripping. you feel the characters pain, you feel their inner dialogue, you feel their self loathing. for the most part, she intertwines her main message with the overall plot and conflict of the story and i found it came off authentic Leah's parents are amazing people and were foster parents to many, many children, so the then sections, had me hooked on discovering more about the current children in their care, as well as life on their Alpaca farm, which even has a bunny barn! I found myself utterly captivated by Someone I Used To Know, charmed by Leah’s busy household and generous hearted parents who offer sanctuary to children in need, warmed by the intense bond that develops between Leah, George and Theo, and heartbroken when the trio are separated. I delighted in alpaca’s with personality, giant fluffy bunny’s, and a wood planted with love and hope for the future.

2. Excerpt from Somebody I used to know

Told through the voices of Ashley, the rape survivor and her self-centered brother, Derek, this tale is meant to make people uncomfortable, to make us feel guilty, to open our eyes. For parents who say, this is too raw for my teen, think again, this is EXACTLY what EVERY teen needs to read, male or female. A court verdict does not end the pain of the survivor, long after we are on to the next news bite, the cancer continues to grow, for everyone touched. Gorgeous, brimming with heart, this is Paige Toon at her best. Beautiful and accomplished... A class act' MILLY JOHNSON When I'm able to stand again, I return to my computer and set up a blog. The first thing I post is Victor Patton's mug shot. The second thing I post is my victim impact statement. And the third thing I post is a question. Sean and Ally spend a nostalgic, romantic day together. Both are reminded of what they lost when they broke up. The two share a few tender moments, but Ally’s world is shaken once again when she finds out that Sean is about to get married. The matter is further complicated when Ally meets Sean’s fiance Cassidy, played by Kiersey Clemons. Cassidy is outgoing, fun, exciting, and living in the moment. Those are all the things that Ally lost over time, or so she thinks. Cassidy is the epitome of living in the moment – outgoing, fun, and exciting. With humour, truth and grace, this book [gives] a unique insight into what it's like to live with Alzheimer's * Spectator *

In Somebody I Used to Know [Mitchell] describes life after her diagnosis - one that, despite looming loss, remains full of purpose * Radio Times *

Paige also did an amazing job describing some of the realities of the foster care system ... positives and negatives! How does it feel to start to lose your memories, your identity? Mitchell, who discovered at the age of 58 that she had early-onset dementia, tells us in this remarkable book -- Summer Reads * Mail on Sunday * What a perfect emotive journey! I could feel every character so brilliantly, the writing was beyond immersive… I really never wanted this to end!’ LOUISE PENTLAND In fact if you are already a Paige Toon fan, then stop deliberating and just read the book as its easily one of her best books, full of depths and even had me on the the verge of tears a few time, such was the brilliance of the turn of phrase. Although a love triangle is central to the novel, this one is so much more than that. It's also a book about the importance of family, and second chances. The novel alternates between two timeline, the first featuring Leah as a fifteen-year-old teenager, who, although she knows deep down that her parents love her, often feels resentful that her parents devote so much time to taking in foster children. The second features Leah some years later, who, as she reconnects with her widowed mother and with George, begins to see things from a more mature perspective.
