About this deal

After some last-minute cramming, the test is taken and the study group rejoices over the finished task. Chabashira reveals that the students are placed into each of the classes is based on their merits, with the best students being placed into Class A and the defective ones being placed into Class D. It is only after Honami Ichinose comes looking for Chie that the two are left alone and arrive at the guidance room. Chabashira reveals that Class 1-D received all of the points they were supposed to get, and goes on to reveal that their constant poor behaviour over the last month had decreased their monthly point earnings to zero as the school has evaluated them as being worth that much.

A month after the start of the school year, Chabashira arrives and addresses the classroom for homeroom. They go on to refer to a famous passage which states that learning creates imbalances in equality, emphasizing that the teaching remains the same, albeit in a more complex situation, in the modern era. Even Kiyotaka has presented himself as “too normal” to many of his classmates and teachers and it’s obvious to the reader that he is also just as abnormal as the rest of them, despite him trying to upkeep his normal appearance.

Good thing is, there are so many unanswered questions about Ayanokouji that would keep you continue picking up this series, so volume 2, here we go.

What’s worse is that even after they’re confronted with the consequences of their actions, they don’t have any intention of actually improving. There is a small argument, but the older students leave after taking pity on them after learning that the two of them are students from Class 1-D, much to their confusion. We seem some heavy hints of serious Isolation among other things, but it's never truly expanded upon in this volume. The first volume really sets up the idea that the entirety of Class D, the lowest class in the system of the school, is the naive new partaker of the system which knows nothing about the ins-and-outs of the system itself, and therefore will be exploited to the highest extent because of it.I would say that the span of the light novel is rather long for one event that was already covered in 2 episodes of anime. Its exposition about the struggle for equality by humanity despite the inherent well-known impossibility of such was unique introduction. Kiyotaka agrees with her, and Chabashira reveals that she is aware that getting the old test questions was done by Kiyotaka and commends how he went about it. I’m glad I picked up the light novels, though, as even the introductory arc had quite a lot to chew on. The dialogue in this is terrible and characters constantly change their mind suddenly with barely any logical explanation.
