About this deal

As you have probably already discovered if you are reading this article, not all whey proteins were created equal. Whey protein encompasses all protein powders that contain the ‘whey’ part of milk, after it has been separated from casein (another dairy-based protein supplement). Within the realm of whey proteins, there are several versions available. These include concentrate and isolate. Optimum Nutrition offer options for both under the names ‘ Gold Standard Whey’ and ‘ Gold Standard Isolate’. 100% Whey Gold Standard vs Pure Whey Protein Isolate: which is the best whey?

One scoop contains about 105 calories, except for the Chocolate Bliss flavor, which has 110 calories because it has half a gram of fat per serving. Note that the nutrition label states 100 calories but the protein, carbs, and fat add up to 105 calories — not that this makes much of a practical difference.I’ll discuss the taste below, but it’s worth pointing out that this isn’t an “all natural” product: it’s got artificial flavors and sweeteners, plus it contains soy lecithin to help with mixability. We are not of the opinion that soy or artificial sweeteners are necessarily bad for you, but we can’t deny that there are people who try to avoid them. However, I feel that the flavor of the chocolate isolate is good. I’ve been drinking it now for a month, plus I’ve been using ON products since 2010. It’s solid. The best way to describe the taste and texture, that is if you’re using water, just think of chocolate milk, without using milk, and you used water. It’s not grainy, it’s not chalky, and it’s not sandy. It goes down like chocolate water. Nutrition Information may vary depending on flavour. Table based on Chocolate flavours. Will this be the best protein isolate you have ever drank? Nope, that title will always belong to BSN Syntha-6. Milk contains two main types of protein: whey and casein. Whey is found in the watery portion of milk. Whey protein is a mixture of proteins isolated from whey and is considered a complete protein. In other words, it contains all nine essential amino acids. Whey protein concentrate: WPC contains more nutrients than any other type of whey, due to how it's manufactured. There are also some more unusual flavours to choose from including white chocolate and toffee fudge. Our favourite flavour is mint chocolate, which we find tastes great and Optimum Nutrition do this flavour better than any other supplement manufacturer. Gold Standard mixes easily in a shaker bottle without any issues. This also isn’t completely lactose free; we spoke to Optimum Nutrition and they confirmed this is about 95 percent lacrosse free, so it’s extremely unlikely to cause any issues. However, if you’re very intolerant to lactose it may give you pause, particularly as there re no digestive enzymes like lactase added to the product. (Note that the original Gold Standard Whey does have lactase.)These increased processes and purity result in a higher cost and many users are not willing to pay a premium. For many, the slight increase in protein is not worth the often substantial price increase with a full whey isolate supplement. Gold Standard Whey protein hydrolysate: 'Hydro whey' to some, WPH is designed to break down proteins into a state that makes them easier for your body to absorb. How Much Whey Protein Do I Need? This protein powder contains a blend of mostly whey isolate with some whey concentrate. This allows it to achieve many of the benefits of both. Each serving contains a huge 24g of protein which is superior compared to most other protein shakes available today. There is also a relatively low 1.2g of sugars and 1.6g of carbs. At other times of the day, such as before bed, a slower releasing protein like a concentrate, casein or blend might be preferable to give a slower release of those valuable aminos, including the 3 BCAAs, through hours in what is essentially a fasted state. 3. Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Protein: The best all-round whey protein powder Whey protein concentrate (WPC) is made by separating whey protein from the casein and water in milk, and whey protein isolate (WPI) is made by filtering some of the naturally occurring fat and carbohydrate out of WPC. Both are high-quality proteins derived from milk. However, gram for gram, WPI contains less fat, cholesterol, and carbohydrate than WPC, and may be more expensive due the extra filtration steps required for its production.Following a tough session, the rate of protein synthesis will remain raised for 24 hours,' he adds.
