About this deal

In the case of cable, satellite, or free TV, you can experience pixelation due to weak signals being fed to your TV from the network. Unfortunately, even changing settings won’t do much to fix the quality of the signal. This is a brilliantly detailed and sharp performance, too, and Sony's processing includes a feature that automatically enhances the depth of the image, resulting in excellent solidity and three-dimensionality. On the subject of processing, Sony's motion-handling is still peerless, smoothing panning shots and fast action without introducing any unnaturalism. Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 29th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) Of these two 'dynamic' HDR formats, Dolby Vision is by far the most prevalent, both in terms of TVs and content, and if you have to choose between one and the other, that's the one we'd recommend. That said, you can now buy TVs from the likes of Philips and Panasonic that support both Dolby Vision and HDR10+. x 2,160 resolution with ten-bit colour covering 90% of the DCI P3 colour gamut. This is an Ultra HD resolution with more than one billion possible colours. The P3 gamut is a wider colour gamut, meaning you’re presented with more realistic colours, with deeper shades now possible. This creates a more visually pleasing image and is also far closer to the way the director intended you to see their creation. Most high-end cinemas use projection systems that cover the DCI P3 colour gamut, so expect to hear about “cinema-quality” images in the near future.

But if there is still no sound, try rebooting your TV, by unplugging and turning it on again after two minutes.

You don’t have to spend long in the AU7100’s company, though, to realise that a TV doesn’t have to be an extrovert to stand out from the crowd. Solid processing and a thoughtful, balanced picture that actually seems to have had some care and attention lavished on it can be more than enough.

For ease, we've included 40-inch TVs as well as the best 42-inch TVs and 43-inch TVs in this guide. If there is still no sound, try using different audio outputs. If you have a soundbar or a pair of headphones, try connecting them. You’re better off using the automatic resolution, rather than forcing a setting that your Internet connection cannot handle. In this guide, we've also included several 42-inch and 43-inch TVs, which might give you a bit of extra screen space if the best 40-inch TVs seem a touch too small. What about 42-inch TVs and 43-inch TVs?

HDR10 is a static HDR format that applies the HDR values on a scene-by-scene basis (i.e. whenever the camera cuts to a new scene). Dolby Vision, on the other hand, applies this image information (called metadata) on a frame-by-frame basis. This dynamic form of HDR, when implemented properly, has the potential to improve upon the standard HDR10 presentation. Hot on the heels of LG's first 42-inch OLED TV came the 42-inch Sony A90K, which uses the same panel. If you’re mad about movies, you’ll love Filmmaker Mode. Designed in collaboration with filmmakers and Hollywood studios, Filmmaker Mode lets you experience the cinematic vision, exactly as the director intended. Overriding the TV’s own motion and picture processing, Filmmaker Mode presents the correct aspect ratio, colour and frame rate – just as the filmmakers intended. In case you haven’t heard, Sharp TVs were recently bought by the same company that owns Hisense TVs. Every new TV receives Freeview, but the majority now include Freeview HD tuners, too. This is the easiest way to watch HD broadcasts because you can use your existing digital aerial without having to buy any additional equipment.

Freesat HD is a non-subscription alternative to Freeview HD that’s transmitted by satellites rather than broadcasting towers. If you live in an area with poor broadcast reception and don’t want to pay for Sky TV, this is the best way to get television into your home. You can use an existing Sky satellite dish or pay to have one installed. You will also need to run a coaxial cable from the satellite to your television if no access point is available nearby. The damage may be a bloated capacitor, which an experienced repairman can easily replace. 5. My Sharp TV has No Sound But before you send the TV to a repairman or attempt some DIY fixes, there is some troubleshooting that you can do. Problems connecting to the internet are one of the most common issues users of smart TVs run into, regardless of brand.

Our biggest complaint is really the smart TV software layout, though – it's not as intuitive as some options. The Samsung Q60C QLED is a decent TV from Samsung and an alternative to the Sony X85K and Roku Select Series. Unfortunately, the Sony is much better overall for about the same price, and the far cheaper Roku TV is a tad better overall.

It may not have fancy displays, but if you want a reliable workhorse to provide you with home entertainment, Sharp won’t let you down. The S90C’s LaserSlim design also helps it stand out from the crowd. It’s sleek yet sturdy, and well-connected, with four HDMI 2.1 ports complemented by a pair of USB-A ports, an optical digital output and an ethernet port. Gamers are as well-served here as they are by the more expensive Samsung options on this list, though a few sacrifices are made in the sound department. The 2.1-channel speaker is no match for the QN95C or QN900C but still manages to create a well-balanced soundstage, clear dialogue and decent bass. It's one of two TVs made by Roku in 2023, their first-ever TVs. It comes with the great Roku TV smart platform, which is extremely fast, simple, and easy to use, with a great selection of streaming channels. It has a good remote with an integrated microphone for voice commands, or you can also give commands through the Roku companion app on your phone. You can also plug headphones into the remote, a great feature at this price point. Overall, the TV is decent and provides a good user experience, especially at its price. Still, if you're a Costco member, you can get the slightly better Hisense A6/A65K for a similar price. But if Costco isn't an option, the Roku is an amazing choice. Note that the 40-inch model of the Roku is limited to a 1080p resolution with three HDMI ports, while the 43-inch model is a 4k TV with four HDMI ports, so choose accordingly. HDR10+ is a rival format to Dolby Vision. Created by Samsung, it also uses dynamic metadata but, whereas Dolby Vision is licensed, HDR10+ is a free, open format that any company can deploy as it sees fit.
