When the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was first announced, it was an obvious choice for a LEGO Marvel advent calendar. On the inside of each flap door is a picture of its respective build, which also doubles as your instructions; there is no separate booklet to explain how to put these together. There are also frequently asked questions, a product rating and feedback from users to enable you to optimally use your product. LEGO might consider enclosing a small instruction booklet in the future; the packages say 6+ and 7+, but some of these barebones instructions would likely trip them up. It’s one of the most creative Advent Calendar Christmas trees yet, and it pairs remarkably well with Groot, who’s, well, a sentient tree.

The image doesn’t spoil ALL of the contents, but in addition to C-3PO and R2-D2 in ugly christmas sweaters, we also get a beach Darth Vader, Snow Trooper, Battle Droid and a Clone Commander, which looks suspiciously like the one from the UCS Republic Gunship. This is, for the most part, adequate instruction; the simplest builds are minifigures with a single accessory. Your blog is a go to destination after our builds to see what you have to say and especially to identify some of the more obscure designs. From left to right, we have Yondu’s Arrow, an Annulax Battery (from GOTG Volume 2), a Quarnyx Battery (from the Prison Scene in GOTG 1), an eyeball that he gets Baby Groot to collect, and the prisoner’s prosthetic leg from the same Prison Break scene in GOTG 1. My parents were secular, and although my family celebrated Christmas in a broad sense, we focused exclusively on the "family" and "togetherness" parts of the equation, rather than on the religious aspects. In hindsight, I should’ve swivelled it so that the star is at the top, but I only realised it while editing today’s photos! Not sure if its just me, but the antenna are a little wonky on her hairpiece which is made out of rubbery plastic, which isn’t my favourite material.The Star Wars Calendar has been the biggest surprise – absolutely no misses (except maybe the Vaporator) and some really great innovation with the choice of ships/build designs. The Star Wars Advent Calendar ( see it at Walmart) is mostly spacecraft and droid builds from the movies.
